History of CISS in Egypt

CISS is a non-profit organization that has been operating in Egypt since 1998, at first with a project to support handicraft production in the oasis of Siwa. Projects in Egypt are focused on promoting economic development of oases and rural areas, by preserving and enhancing environmental and cultural heritage, fostering sustainable tourism development, increasing job opportunities in the sectors of green and rural economy, and improving effective management of natural resources and environment. Other areas of intervention include education, training, children and adolescents.

Ongoing and future projects

Title: Strengthening business environment for the eco-touristic development of New Valley Governorate 
Sector: environment, ecotourism, job creation, training, education.
Date of beginning: 2018
Duration: 3 years 

The aim of the project is to support the development of ecotourism sector and sustainable management of natural and artistic heritage in New Valley Governorate. CISS plans to implement more projects in Egypt in the next years. 

Among them, the project “New Education for Achievement” aims at contributing to strengthen women’s role in Egyptian society and to promote an aware and empowered society by implementing education activities for children, teachers and school operators and the project “Developing Youth and Women Employment Partnership in rural and remote areas of Fayoum, Minya and New Valley” which aims at the creation of new partnerships between civil society, local authorities and small and medium-sized enterprises, to support employment of young people and women in the sector of rural and green economy and to expand local economic activities oriented towards sustainability.
